Care and cleaning of Lamb Pelts

Our pelts are professionally tanned by Buck's County Fur Products in Quakertown Pennsylvania and is made to be washable, but can be dry cleaned if desired (recommended) by a reputable leather dry cleaner.

Water washing per the instructions from Bucks County (below) tends to make the skin hard and it takes time to get the skin back to its supple texture, but it can be done with manual softening using something like Neatsfoot Oil.  Once cleaned as per instructions below, you need to work the oil in to the skin using the back of a chair or a rounded piece of wood.  Once this is done, you may lightly roll pelt in wood shavings to remove any oil that gets on the wool side.  Then brush to clean wood shavings off.

Laundering Lambskins

1. Rinse with cool water.

2. Wash with Liquid Ivory in warm water on gentle cycle for 3 minutes.

3. Rinse in warm water (twice).  Allow to go through spin cycles.  Air dry, then brush.

4. Dryer set at 120 degrees - or air dry then put in dryer to fluff - no heat.
